Greek aquaculture legislation since the year 2011: The perspective of biological conservationists and local communities


In the year 2011 the Greek goverment in obvious collaboration with large fish farming interests decided it should separate Greek land and waters according to what suited them best .They made legislation which passed overnight , marine and land conservation areas where characterized as industrial fish farming areas, local communities where simply ignored. The map bellow shows this characterization. The 2014 legislation of the Greek summer parliament that was rellevant further legalized and made more specific this aggression. Recently the supreme court in Greece that was responsible for examining the 2011 legislation rulled in favor of it . In the future local communities and organizations will obviously respond.
